Helen Swim, 84 of Stanley, died Friday, May 7th at the
Oakbrook Nursing and Rehab Center in Thorp. She was born
on July 1, 1925 in Douglas, N.D. the daughter of the late John
and Daisy (McNish) Kane. Her family moved to Stanley in 1935
and graduated from Stanley High 1943. Helen worked at
Ladysmith Milk Producer Co-op plant in Stanley. She was
united in marriage on Feb. 13, 1947 to Harley Swim in
Milwaukee. They soon moved back to Stanley on Emery Street
where they have resided since.
The couple owned and operated the Stanley Bakery for many
years. They then worked for 11 years at the Northern Center.
Helen was very active at Holy Family and a member of the
P.C.C.W. Helen enjoyed traveling, playing cards, reading and
knitting. She spent the last 8 months in Oakbrook where she
received excellent care.
Helen is survived by her husband of 63 years, Harley of
Stanley, her five children, Gregory (Judie) Swim of Chippewa,
Nancy (Harold) Wagner of Stanley, Gene Swim of Pequot
Lakes, MN., Jackie Shock of Chippewa and Michael Swim of
Portland, OR., 15 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and
one sister, Anna Tomaszewski of Thorp. She is preceded in
death by her parents, one son in law, Mike Shock and one
daughter in law, Georgia Swim.
A memorial mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May
12th at Holy Family Catholic Church, Stanley. Father Joseph
Raja will officiate. Burial will follow at the Parish Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until time of service at the Church.
The Plombon Funeral Home assisted the family with
arrangements.
