John B. “Jack” VerWeyst, age 86, passed away
on Thursday, Nov. 25, 2010 at St. Joseph East
Hospital, Lexington, Kentucky. He was born in
Stanley, WI on July 12, 1924, the son of the late
Frank & Laura (Heiting) VerWeyst. Jack grew up
in Stanley and attended area schools, after which
he then entered the U.S. Army, serving in the
European Theatre, including the Battle of the
Bulge during WWII. After his discharge from the
service Jack returned to Stanley where he
worked for the U. S. Postal Service for 37 years
and was an active member of the Stanley VFW
Post 2711. On December 2, 1950 in Green Bay,
WI he was united in marriage to his wife Elna, of
which they shared 59 wonderful years together.
After Jacks retirement from the Postal Service he
and Elna moved to Kentucky to spend their
retirement years. He was an active member of
Faith Lutheran Church and was also a Shriner.
Survivors other than his wife are a son, Robert J.
(Katherine) VerWeyst of Hammond, WI; as
daughter, Mary Ellen (Randy) Dyke of Grand
Rapids, MI; and three grandchildren, Ryan, Neil
and Laura. He was preceded in death by a
brother, Eugene. Funeral Services will be 2 P.M.
Monday at the Faith Lutheran Church, Lexington,
Kentucky by Pastor Ron Luckey. Burial will be in
Holy Family Catholic Cemetery, Stanley, WI with
graveside services at 1:00 P.M. on Saturday,
December 4, 2010 with military graveside
services being performed by the Stanley VFW
Post 2711. Contributions are suggested to
Shriners Hospital, 1900 Richmond Road,
Lexington, Kentucky 40502. Plombon Funeral
Service of Stanley, WI assisted with graveside
services.
