Veronica (Verona) Ryba Veeser, age 96, a woman of
great faith, left us to be with Jesus on June 22, 2010 at
Our Home Senior Living in Chippewa Falls, WI.
She was born July 2, 1913 in the Town of Delmar, to
Anna M. Kroj & John Ryba Sr.  Verona grew up in the
Boyd area and attended area schools, at times walking
up to 3 ½ miles to school.  After elementary school,
she stayed home to help on the farm and was also an
accomplished seamstress, establishing her own
clientele as a teenager.  Verona started Stanley High
School at the age of 20, and graduated in three years
(1936) with honors (under the tutelage of Mr. Dodge).
It was there that she found her life passion in learning
and teaching. Verona followed high school with teacher
training, and then went on to UW-Eau Claire to obtain
her degrees in elementary education and library
science. Verona taught 34 years, 15 years in rural
schools and 19 years in Boyd.  She retired from
teaching in 1978.
On July 18, 1939, she married Major Leo W. Veeser, at
the church of St Agnes in St. Paul, Minnesota.  They
started Veeser’s Minkery when Leo came home from
World War II, ranching for 18 years.  Veeser’s Minkery
was one of the largest mink ranches in Wisconsin and
at times, with over 2,000 mink.
Verona was very proud of the fact she lived in a log
house for most of her life ( first with parents, then the
Veeser homestead)  She moved to Home Suite Home,
Eagle Point in 2003.
She was a member of Holy Family Parish in Stanley
(formerly St. Mary’s Parish) since 1941, and a member
of Catholic Woman’s Club and Holy Family Aid.  Prior to
joining St.Mary’s, she was a member of St. Joseph’s
Catholic Church in Boyd, WI.
Verona was past president and member of the Stanley-
Boyd Education Association; Tri-County Retired
Educators; American Legion Auxiliary Post 112; and
the Chippewa County American Legion Auxiliary.  She
was also a life member of the Boyd American Legion
Auxiliary Post 326 (since 1935, joining at the age of 22).
She was a dedicated teacher; an accomplished
seamstress; inveterate world-wide traveler (her favorite
trip was Germany & Austria, where she found her
parents homes); and innovative crafter (creating over
100 dolls with birth certificates, bringing cheer to
children and adults alike) and wood worker (making
bookcases for three area schools and furniture for her
own home).  Through her travels around the world she
collected many things, including more than 50 rosaries.

Verona was active well into her late 80,s planting trees
at age 87 and making her last international trip at age
86.  After retirement she taught CCD, volunteered at
the public library, and crafted hundreds of lap robs for
the Stanley Nursing Home.
She is survived by her daughter Sharon (James)
Stanek of Chippewa Falls, WI; and son, Leo W. Veeser
(Jenny Candell) of Leesburg, Florida; grandchildren
