Eleanor Toft Eimermann, 98, of Stanley, died Saturday, December
31, 2011 at Our Lady of Victory Hospital-Stanley. She was born on
Aug. 8, 1913 in Stanley the daughter of the late Carl and Sara Edna
(Dunn) Toft. She grew up in Stanley and graduated from Stanley
High, winning top honors in physics. Eleanor continued her education
at Stout State college and graduated with a certificate in teaching.
Always an adventurous spirit, Eleanor traveled the country, ultimately
working in Yellowstone Park, Florida and Cleveland, Ohio. While
living in Florida in the 1930s, she took flying lessons. She met the
father of her children in Cleveland, Ohio. After his untimely death,
Eleanor returned to Stanley to raise her children. As a single head of
household, she worked full time and survived cancer. Her
employment in Stanley included working as secretary to the
superintendent at Stanley High School, following a job as bookkeeper
for Blue Moon Cheese. She also served as the treasurer for the
Stanley Presbyterian Church for several years.
Eleanor was reunited with her high school sweetheart, Fred
Eimermann, in her 50’s and they married in 1968. Fred was the
Superintendent of Jordan and Lydia Schools, in MN. After his
retirement, they moved back to Stanley. Fred died on December 26,
1992.
Eleanor is survived by two daughters, Cathy (Rich) Malavarca of
Long Valley, NJ and Sherril Garahan of St. Paul, MN, 4 grandchildren
(Jason Eimermann, Evan Malavarca, Laura and Eliot Garahan), her
sister, Dorothy Evans of Sioux City, IA, and her nephew, Fred Evans
of Stanley, Wis.
She is preceded in death by her husband Fred, her parents, and her
brothers John and LawrenceToft.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Eleanor’s name to the
Stanley Historical Society, and the Chippewa County Humane
Association.
