Katherine Leone Wald, age 94 of the town of
Colburn, passed away on Saturday, February 18,
2012 at the Country Terrace of Altoona. Katherine
was born May 20, 1917 in Stanley, second of twelve
children to the late Edward & Hazel (Hatfield)
Samplawski. On December 22, 1934 she was united
in marriage to Harry Wald in Stanley. Shortly
afterwards, they settled in the Colburn area where
they raised five children. She enjoyed raising her
children, gardening, and sewing, as well as making
many quilts. She loved politics, history, and working
with numbers. She also will be remembered for
dispensing pieces of wisdom to her grandchildren,
great-grandchildren, and extended family. Her faith
in the Lord was her guide throughout her long life.
Surviving her are her four daughters; Harriet
(Lawrence) Halida of Loyal, WI; Janice (Daryl)
Neigebauer and Mary (Craig) Schroeder both of
Owatonna, MN; Debbie (Jerry) Kjesbo of Altoona,
WI; and one son, Kenneth (Karen) Wald of Buffalo
City, WI; 12 granddaughters, six grandsons, 17 plus
great-grandchildren, four step great-grandchildren,
three sisters, Florence Wald, Phyllis (August)
Stanek and Geraldine Mahal, three brothers,
Everett, Bernard and Wayne (Roberta) Samplawski,
two sister-in-laws, Marian and Cleone Samplawski,
plus a multitude of nieces, nephews, extended
family and friends that brought joy to Katherine’s
life. She was preceded in death by her parents,
Harry, her life long partner of 58 years who
preceded her in death in 1992, one sister, Alva
Torisk, and four brothers, Clarence, Norman,
George & Harold Samplawski.
Katherine has now gone to be with her
Lord.

Services will be held on Friday, February 24, 2012 at 2:00 PM
at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Stanley with Pastor Sarah
Semmler Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the Evergreen
Cemetery, Stanley. Friends and family may call from 12 noon
to 2:00 P.M. prior to service time at the church on Friday.
Plombon Funeral Service of Stanley assisted the family with
arrangements.
