Obituary:

Carol A. Reit, 86, of Stanley, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 5, 2026. Carol was born on December 16, 1939, in Chicago, Illinois, to the late William and Mary (Welby) Ebel. Carol grew up in Oak Park, Illinois, where she attended school and graduated from Oak Park High School in 1957. On July 17, 1965, she married the love of her life, Harm Reit, in Illinois. Together they raised their three children in Illinois until 1977, when the family moved to Stanley, Wisconsin. Carol later worked for many years as a bank teller at First Federal Bank.

Carol's greatest joy in life was her family. She treasured every moment spent with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, family, and friends. Whether gathering around the table for a meal, playing cards, or celebrating holidays and special occasions, she cherished the time they spent together and the memories they created. Carol enjoyed staying active and social throughout her life. She loved to travel and looked forward to exploring new places and making memories along the way. She was a longtime member of the Red Hat Society and bowled on a Thursday night league for many years. She loved playing cards and games, and if there was a new restaurant to try or a delicious meal to enjoy, Carol was always ready. A true foodie, she found great happiness in sharing good food and conversation with those she loved. Above all, Carol was known for her caring heart, warm smile, and unwavering love for her family and friends. She never met a stranger. She was happiest when surrounded by the people she loved most.

Carol will be remembered for the unconditional love she gave her family, her warm smile, generous heart, adventurous spirit, and the joy she found in life's simple pleasures. Whether traveling to a new destination, sharing a wonderful meal, playing a game of cards, or spending time with those she loved, she made every moment special. Her love, laughter, and legacy will live on in the hearts of her family and friends forever.

She is survived by her children, Karen Edwards of Stanley, Ken (Tammy) Reit of Loveland, Colorado, and Richard "Rick" (Shelly) Reit of Willard; six grandchildren, Elizabeth (Adam) Molzof, Joshua (Sarah) Reit, Jennifer Hansen, Jason (Tiffany) Reit, Tiffany Edwards, Jamie (Austin Wallace) Reit; ten great-grandchildren; along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Mary Ebel; her beloved husband, Harm Reit; her sister, Sandy Schooler and her son-in-law, Mark Edwards.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 11, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Stanley, with Father William Felix officiating. Visitation will be held on Monday, August 10, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Plombon Funeral Home in Stanley and again one hour prior to the Mass at the church. Inurnment will take place at a later date at Edson Union Cemetery.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff of St. Croix Hospice for the exceptional care, kindness, and dignity they showed Carol and her family during the final chapter of her life.
