Obituary:
Kenneth “Ken” Schuebel March 30, 1947 – October 23, 2026Kenneth Joseph Schuebel, 79, passed away on October 23, 2026, after a courageous battle with acute myeloid leukemia, on the family farm where he was raised and spent his entire life. It was his greatest wish to return home to the farm, and he was blessed to spend his final days surrounded by family in the place he loved most. Ken was born on March 30, 1947, to Herman and Frances (Adams) Schuebel. He graduated from Stanley-Boyd High School in 1964 and began his career on the family farm in Boyd. Ken took great pride in being a dairy farmer. It was more than a job; it was a way of life and a passion he carried with him long after retiring from dairy farming in 2008. He loved reading farming magazines and keeping up with new equipment, technology, and the many changes taking place in agriculture. Over the years, he also collected an impressive array of farm toys.
On September 6, 1969, Ken married Jane Kuehni. Their story began when Ken asked Jane to their junior prom, and what started as a friendship blossomed into a lifetime of love and partnership. Together, they raised three children and recently celebrated 57 years of marriage. Family was at the heart of Ken’s life, and he especially enjoyed family gatherings filled with good food, evenings around the campfire, and visits with his southern Louisiana cousins.
Ken will be remembered for his positive outlook, his love of family, and the life he built on the family farm. He had an incredible memory for dates and, like any good farmer, could recall the weather from years past with remarkable accuracy.
Proud to be a Wisconsinite, Ken was a devoted fan of the Green Bay Packers and Milwaukee Brewers. For many years, he decorated the farm with an incredible display of Christmas lights that drew people from throughout the area for a special drive-by visit. He was active in his church community, participated in several bowling leagues, supported his children in their 4-H activities and sports, and was a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters.
Ken is survived by his beloved wife, Jane; children, Karen (Barry) Eslinger, Kristen (Neil) Hatfield, and Michael (Amanda Hoffstatter) Schuebel; grandchildren, Audrey, Bennett, and Jack Hatfield, Willy Graham, and Everlee Schuebel; brother-in-law Paul (Andrea) Kuehni; and sisters-in-law Christine (Steve) Scheidler and Nancy (Jim) Straskowski. He was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Frances Schuebel; brother, Herman Jr.; sister, Rita; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Albert and Veronica Kuehni; nephew, Travis Kuehni; and Travis’s wife, Peggy Kuehni.
Visitation will be held Sunday, November 1, 2026, from 2 to 5 p.m. at Plombon Funeral Home in Stanley, Wisconsin. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, November 2, at 11 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church in Stanley, officiated by Father William Felix. Interment will follow at St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery in Boyd. Memorials can be directed to the St. Joseph’s Centennial Campaign.
The family extends its heartfelt gratitude to Ken’s doctors and nurses at Mayo Clinic, especially the team at the Mayo Cancer Center, for their compassionate care and support throughout his illness.
